Feminism Within Reason

The words feminist and feminism were coined in the 1800’s, and they refer to the struggle to achieve women’s rights and equality of the sexes. Feminism has always been controversial. As early feminists faced opposition for suggesting that women should be allowed to vote or to pursue careers, so too do contemporary feminists face backlash for their efforts to reform the entertainment industry, fight sexual assault and achieve true equality in society.

But all feminist grievances are not created equal. Critics say that statistics about wage inequality and sexual assault are often quoted in misleading ways, that campaigns like #metoo and “believe all victims” breed injustice, that publications in gender studies fail to meet scientific standards, and that modern feminism obscures gender roles, leaving men confused and neglected.

What is your view on contemporary feminism? Which of its goals are legitimate, and which are spurious? What is the most reasonable and practical way to pursue the ideal of equality between the different sexes and genders?
